Drilling Technician / Technologist

At CFOL, Drilling Technicians and Technologists play a key role in performing various drilling related technical and clerical duties. More specifically, a Drilling Technician or Technologist may be responsible for performing the following functions:

  • Prepare and submit well license applications.
  • Obtain, distribute, and file drilling and completion reports.
  • Obtain surface land packages.
  • Code and obtain approval for invoices.
  • Submit reports and information to the appropriate government agencies.
  • Maintain the department well file system and database.
  • Gather and distribute partner information.
  • Coordinate activities with the department manager and other department staff.
  • Work with other departments to ensure processes are efficient and meeting internal standards.

Drilling Technicians and Technologists generally require courses in drilling and production and industry experience has been considered an asset. Technicians and Technologists must also be skilled in analysis, problem solving, decision-making, planning, organizing, meeting deadlines, multi-tasking, and communication. Experience with computer applications is essential.

A Technician or Technologist in this role works closely with other team members in the office and field. Depending on the position, they may be required to perform work outside of regular office hours.
